Service Officer / Claims

Claims are processed every Wednesday from 9:30am to 2:00pm.

In everything we do, DAV has one goal—provide all injured and ill veterans and their dependents the best service and most professional claims representation available from any source. Keeping this in mind, it is imperative for us to reach out to those who need our assistance. Chapter service officers (CSOs) are an integral part of this goal, as specifically outlined in Goal 1 of our Strategic Plan. All chapters are encouraged to appoint or elect one or more CSO annually, in order to provide assistance to veterans and dependents in their communities. DAV also wants to ensure that each CSO receives the training and information necessary to effectively assist those whom we serve. DAV has created a training program that enables elected or appointed CSOs the opportunity to become certified or re-certified for coverage under the national organization’s Indemnification of the Department and Chapter Service Programs. This training is designed to enhance the knowledge and professionalism of the CSOs and helps us provide the best service possible to our clients. The training consists of classroom instruction by a national service officer. The participants learn about DAV’s mission, history and various programs. In addition, they are instructed in the proper use of appropriate forms and the steps in processing claims, as well as their legal and ethical responsibilities to clients. Upon successful completion of the program, CSOs receive certification as a trained chapter service officer. The training must be accomplished annually in order for a CSO to retain certification. The certification training instruction is a fulfilling learning experience, and the CSOs gain a rewarding experience from their dedication to DAV’s mission of service and caring for injured and ill veterans, their dependents and survivors.
